Robin, thank you so much!

I've incorporated your Bellingham-Whatcom County League clips into our Civics Topics page at https://www.lwvcs.org/civics

Has anyone in this fourm seen Phil Portlock's film "Voting Rights: the Struggle to be Counted"? We are thinking of signing on to the July 17 showing and promoting the film to our League members/community.

We would welcome hearing comments from anyone who has seen the film. Mr. Portlock told me the original film was an hour long and has been edited to 36 minutes. Just curious how the the film flows and inspires discussion.

Thank you,

Robin,

Thanks for sharing your videos! Our Kitsap League recently voted to create a new committee to explore creating videos to reach out to younger people. Everything we read confirms that if you aren't using video, you aren't reaching a big swath of people, especially young folks. So, we're getting ready to dip our toes into the big world of TikTok/YouTube shorts.

One thing I really like about your videos is that they answer a question. So if someone searches for the question, your video might pop up, even if they don't follow you. I'm going to advocate for the question/answer format for many of our videos.

I also like that you dive right into the video, with no introductions, and have the contact/hashtag stuff at the end. (I have a personal pet peeve with videos that spend the first 20 seconds on who you are...please just get to the point of the video.)

Nice work!

Alicia Vause, LWV of Kitsap

Thank you so much Robin. We have already added these videos to our website!

I've posted re-edited versions of "Can the President..." short videos that no longer have Bellingham identification in them.

Go to our advocacy page, https://lwvbellinghamwhatcom.org

Feel free to follow them to YouTube to capture the link or the iframe information.

Robin, That would be very helpful for us. Thanks so much. I’m in the process of getting our Voter Services Vp and Director signed up for this workgroup.

LWV Austin Area is collaborating with ResistAustin on a documentary screening of Bringing Down a Dictator, inside an intimate arts theater, on June 18th. It's priced to breakeven at $13pp with LWV supplying setups, ice and popcorn for a BYOB evening. We have only 12 tickets left to get to a sell-out! We are thrilled to have mostly nonmembers attending who are affiliated with other orgs in our area. We gain a new, larger audience to Unite & Rise 8.5 and prospective coalitions, affiliations, collaborations and partners.

Robin, thank you!! for such a swift reply. We're on it.

The scripts for our most recent short videos are attached. These were pretty easy to do--involve a retired English teacher or some librarians to research and write the scripts, then hand them over to a young person who can read them into a computer camera and record them.

These were recorded for social media, but I will try, over the next couple of days, to trim out the part refering to our own social media account so you can use them as is, if you'd like.

Robin, can you share the scripts used in the three excellent videos? We would like to follow suit.

Robin - Thanks so much for starting this forum. You're right "If not now, WHEN? If not me, WHO?" I look forward to seeing some great ways to protect democracy here.

Greetings !

We've all felt the pressure to stand up and speak out in these turbulent times. How can our Leagues reach out with accurate, nonpartisan information to influence events? Are there ways to be heard where we need people to be listening? We've created this special forum to share ideas about how we can meet the moment and how CE can support our advocacy goals.

For now, everyone who belongs to the Roundtable group is a member of this forum. If you don't want to get these messages, you may Opt Out*. Or, please feel free to invite other League members to join the Roundtable and this discussion.

For example, a question on the website forum today from Diana asked if any League has experience using CE's "subgroups" to create a sub-website to promote an advocacy program.

In our League we've been creating short (30 sec to 90 sec) civics education videos for social media. Now we're doing a series, "Can the President Do That?" inspired by a program organized by LWV of Minnesota with Professor Alan Rozenshtein. What have you been up to?

We'd love to hear how you are meeting the moment and how your CE platform is helping. A question on the website forum today from Diana asked if any League has experience using CE's "subgroups" to create a sub-website to promote an advocacy program.

Robin Barker (Washington) has created this forum to give us a platform to share ideas. She and I will be encouraging everyone to join us.

We need to hear from you. If other people in your League are advocating, please ask them to join the forum. We need to hear from them.

Thanks. Rionda
